Description
Detailed Wall Plaque Featuring the Nina and its World Map Travels
The Nina is a well-known staple of nautical history; used by Christopher Columbus for his first trip to the West Indies in 1942. The brass plate at the bottom displays his known date of birth and death (1446-1506). This plaque exists in a series of other famous ships that display famous explorers across a printed map adhered to a wood plague. This piece features one of the many variations of the Nina on its voyage. 4 iron pins accent the plaque and it is hung by two chains (meant to be uneven). This will make for a colorful and handsome addition to your nautical décor.
Approximately: 10 x 5.8" at 9oz (Ship: 6 x 4.8 x 1.8")
**This is a CurioStar Altered/Restored Item!**
As detailed in the last photo, this piece has seen some rough times. The borders suffered water damage, with the right chain-pin forcing away through the plaque.. There was no fixing this, but we filled it/smoothed it down and covered the break scar. Since the map is printed (not painted) we couldn't color-match, and instead covered the larger damaged areas with upcycled balsa wood flag markers. We then painted the trim and back in black and coated the plaque with a satin poly.
Concerning the Ship: Model ships are usually painted with dark black and browns to imitate wear and tear, but we took some liberties and re-painted the sails and color-matched the designs. The sails will naturally fade and look older as time goas on. We repainted the wood of the ship itself and added an aged look to it. The ship inserts into the plaque by two pins and is removable.
Notes From CurioStar: Though Altered, this item remains to be in vintage condition, with various imperfections, fading and scratches.
